By faith, not by sight!

At our apartment back in Guatemala, we have a set of slick, steep concrete steps.  Anticipating a future slip or fall, we encouraged the girls from the beginning to get in the habit of using the handrail.  The handrail is important for stability, to provide balance and is intended for use as a guide each time someone climbs up or down the staircase.  While many people only take advantage of and depend on the handrail when visibility is limited, it is available to be used as each step is taken.   In reality, the person who uses the handrail at all times is more comfortable trusting in it when they have to depend on it.

The phrase “live by faith, not by sight” is typically used during a period of un-chosen circumstances, trial or hardship.  However, the truth is that it should be applied in every situation, daily walk and season of life.  Like a handrail, we should rely faithfully on God as our guide, stability and balance as we step through the mountains and valleys of everyday life.  As we seek the Lords direction, depend on Him and walk by faith when things appear clear, it will be easier to walk by faith during the times that visibility is limited and we are unable to walk by sight.
